In Our Parish

THE LITTLE SISTERS OF THE POOR will be collecting during all the Masses next weekend for the support of their work among the elderly poor. The Little Sisters operate the St. Paul’s Archbishop Leibold Home located at 476 Riddle Road, Cincinnati, OH. For over 143 years the Little Sisters of the Poor have been caring for the needy elderly from Cincinnati, Kentucky and Dayton, providing them with a home, nursing care and above all, love and respect, which is so important. This year, the Little Sisters have celebrated the canonization of their foundress, St. Jeanne Jugan on October 11.  In order to maintain their home of 95 residents, the Sisters go out daily to solicit for their needs. Any help you are able to give will be deeply appreciated.

SING PRAISE TO OUR GOD: We are looking for people to sing in the Mother of God Choir. The choir would sing at the 9:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays. The rehearsals are Thursday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. Singers will be asked to audition. This will be helpful in knowing the full range of the voices and the best placement for each voice part. We are especially looking for people to commit to singing for Advent and Christmas. If you are interested in leading the congregation in song and choral music, please contact the Organist/Choir Director, Carol Jenkins at 261.6750.

DPAA 2009: The first rebate check, $859.14 has been received from the Diocesan Parish Annual Appeal. Thanks to everyone for sending in their pledge money. Let’s hope we are as successful this year as we have been in the past. We always try to have a project in mind to apply the rebate money towards. This year, let’s upgrade the heating and cooling unit for the undercroft. The presently used equipment was installed in the 1970’s and definitely needs to be replaced.

LADIES ALTAR SOCIETY invites all its members to attend the Annual Anniversary Mass at the 9:30 Mass on November 22 followed by breakfast in the Church Hall. Anyone interested in joining is welcome to attend. Please call Louise (578.0093) or Jane (426.7801) for reservations.

UPDATE ON THE BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN FOR NEW HOPE: Our congregation has turned in 59 filled bottles but we are missing 41 bottles that had been taken out by parishioners.  Please bring these back filled or unfilled.  You can turn them in at the rectory or ask one of the ushers to put them in the sacristy.

PARISHIONERS GERRY BENZINGER AND DICK TAPKE, along with ten other Northern Kentucky men, are joining forces with an organization called Mustard Seed Communities to plan a one week mission trip beginning January 9, 2010. The mission supports physically and mentally challenged children from the streets and garbage dumps of Jamaica. The group needs your prayers. They also ask that you consider financial support to help them raise $20,000 to cover the costs of materials & supplies for the construction & maintenance work they will complete. Donations can be made www.mustardseed.com (reference “Jamaica” as program). Thank you in advance on behalf of the discarded children God himself created.

ADVANCE NOTICE:

  1. Our Thanksgiving Day Collection at Mass November 26 is in the form of canned and other staple food items. We invite families to bring forward their bags of groceries to place in front of the communion rail in the Procession of Gifts. These will be distributed to the poor through BeConcerned, Welcome House and Our Savior Pantry. Monetary gifts will be directed to Parish Kitchen. Thank you for your generosity.

  2. Christmas Store at BeConcerned – Giving Tree will be assembled by Sunday November 22. Please consider taking a tag, buying the suggested gift to be distributed through the Christmas Store, and returning the gift unwrapped to church before or by Sunday, December 6.

Congratulations to Chuck and Julie Geisen Scheper for their recognition as the 2009 Honorees of The Wellness Community. They became involved with TWC in 1992 and have leveraged their own experience to bring hope to many others struggling with disease and health difficulties.

PAPER MARCH FOR LIFE:  If you wish to be counted as a pro-life advocate and have your name published in the Enquirer in January, you will find some small white envelopes at the usher station. The Pro Life Commission of the diocese is asking for $2.00 per name to cover the cost of the ad, so just put your name on the envelope and the money inside.  You can put it in the collection basket or take to the rectory.  We will take names until Thanksgiving.

SUNDAY MISSALS:  We have 100 copies of the St. Joseph Sunday Missal and the cost is $2.00.  They will be sold after Mass.
