Policy on Weddings Mother of God parish upholds and celebrates the dignity of marriage as an adult sacrament, and is committed to seeing that all weddings held within its walls be celebrations in accord with the Catholic Church’s understanding of the sacrament of Matrimony and in keeping with appropriate liturgical norms. The parish church is a beautiful facility for a wedding and it is centrally located. However, the parish believes that it is not a building to be rented solely for its beauty or convenient location. Because weddings are a vital part of a parish community, the wedding ceremony is to be celebrated within the bride and/or groom’s home Catholic parish community. Therefore, Mother of God parish sets specific policies for all weddings that take place in this parish. These policies include: · Persons who are registered parishioners contributing to the parish for a minimum of one year may request to be married here. · Members may contact the parish office up to one year before their proposed date. Phone 859-291-2288 between 9:30 AM and 4 PM Monday through Friday to request a date and time for the wedding. · The parish and the presiding priest or deacon will provide the engaged couple with further information and expectations about weddings at Mother of God Church. The couple must agree to follow the expectations. · There is a six-month preparation period for the sacrament required for the couple. Please know that if you decide to have your wedding here, we will do our best to make your wedding a blessed experience. July 2008 |
